TFBF - Good Ole Jeffery Davis
God fucking yes Tumblr needed this.
Reblogging everytime this is on my dash.
OH MY GOD!
This music may not be appealing to many of the kids around our scene today, but this is one of the bands that helped to take our local scene and unify it. This band along with Collapse the Memory, My Doppelganger’s Casket, and Death of Skepsis . Almost everyone went to shows to have fun and hang out with great people all while listening to some pretty sweet locals bands. The kids these days really have no clue what it’s like to be part of something as great as that was. I know almost all of the kids that use to go to these shows. Most of use are still friends or share mutual friends to this day.
Now our scene is fucking dead. There are really only about three or four bands I even care about locally. Everyone wants to shove what they think should be the only existing music in our scene down everyone else’s throats. I know the bands I mentioned earlier are all metal bands, but they were all very different styles. I remember shows that had metal, acoustic, and hardcore all on one bill. Now everything is fucking screamo. Sorry guys, but I got over that shit when I was fifteen.
Said it pretty much all right there,Tim. I think the only thing I disagree is that now everything is screamo, there you are wrong. You forgot deathcore.
Also there are no screamo bands in Lafayette, there is still plenty of diversity around but no one is really doing anything at the moment. I would love to keep having/booking shows like that, I’ve always hated shows that were strictly one genre. I always felt like an outsider during the fight days simply because I wasn’t really into that style (granted they were definitely one of the best I saw doing that). At that exact same time there was a small punk scene that I enjoyed much more but hardly got to see because they generally played 18+ shows because all of the kids were into the metal thing and would leave if any other kind of band played, though I can’t say I’m a saint, there have definitely been times where I stepped out while bands I wasn’t into were playing. Not saying everyone was like that but it just didn’t feel that unified. I don’t really know where I’m going with this, I just feel like we could get Lafayette’s scene back up if we tried hard enough, things weren’t really that much different back then.
Things were very much different back then. The bands were filled with cool dudes that talked to everyone. And that’s what kept everyone together. I can’t say the same about the bands around now. Also, you’re lying to yourself if you don’t think kids around here are trying to push for screamo bands to play all the time. I’m not asking for a discussion with you. I’m simply pointing out, the kids today killed the scene.
No one can kill a scene, Lafayette will always have “a scene” it just goes through waves of activity. Yes people were into that and I’m sure kids would have loved that, no one was really playing it though. The guys in the metal bands back then were generally pretty put offish, that scene never seemed friendly to me at all, maybe it’s just because I was used to the New Orleans ska and punk scenes.
I’m just going to be an asshole here and say ARE YOU RETARDED?! I’m friends with a all of the dudes in those bands because of our awesome they were after shows. They ALWAYS were hanging out and talking to people. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen them give away their merch to a kid who only had enough money for the cover. Fuck, the reason why Jiles Landry thought he was cool enough to start his own booking company was because the guys in those bands would talk to him at almost every show and hang out with him. Put offish. How about when bands don’t even stick around at a show to hang out? Because that’s what goes on now. I’m more than okay not going to shows around here. I’ve lived through an awesome scene already. I was making an observation stating that kids around here really have no clue what a good scene really is.
Yes Tim I’m retarded you are so right, there’s no reason to work on getting the scene going again. Of course I don’t mean every single dude in the bands. I’m sure they were all very nice to you, you went to every show. But for the few times I went to Wesley or Chi Alpha shows I always felt very excluded so I stopped going. I wasn’t going to goto shows when I hardly cared for the music because the scene was not unified and all of my favorite local bands never got on shows with the metal bands and I always felt like a complete outsider. If you want to talk about egos there were plenty of those floating around back then too. Lafayette will always be filled that.
Never said egos didn’t exist. They always will exist. I’m just saying that big egos can’t be fucked with when the scene is as weak as it is. You even said that that shit was off putting and the scene was thriving back then. Also, chi alpha is dumb as fuck. I’ve never considered that part of the scene. And the Wesley literally three good shows. That place only had shows when they needed to raise money for some Christian stuff they were planning. Honestly, it sounds like you’re just being whiney now.
